2022 was a year to build on the many successes we achieved in the past two years. Due to the extraordinary generosity of our donors, supporters and grantors, we have installed much needed infrastructure at the Sustainable Nantucket Community Farm and at the Farm to School Garden at the Nantucket Public Schools (NPS). We've collaborated with a number of other local not for profits to create impactful learning experiences in the Farm to School garden, reconnected the dots among our local farms and island restaurants through our NantucketGrownTM Brand, and provided a meaningful downtown gathering place where island artisans + farmers could increase income at our Farmers + Artisans Market. But we're not resting our laurels and we want YOU to join us on our journey towards greater food security on Nantucket! We have a very ambitious agenda for the next twelve months:
Together in 2023, we will:
- Re-establish our Mentor Farm Program, to grow more growers offering education and apprenticships, as well as offering agricultural workshops the public
- Expand the Farmers + Artisans Market program to increase access to WIC, HIP and SNAP to eligible islanders
- Increase food access program participation by expanding outreach through island partners and engaging with farmers to increase crop production
- Provide education and resources through our Homesteading Program that lends Grow Boxes and mobile chicken coops to islanders to explore raising their own food.
- Be a resource for island growers to expand their offerings + markets
