2021 Annual Appeal

If you visited our farm stand at 168 Hummock Pond Road or our seasonal Farmers and Artisans Markets downtown this year, you will have recognized that with your help, Sustainable Nantucket handily checked the first three criteria in the sentence above. With your continued support through a donation to our 2021 Annual Appeal you will set us on a course to also achieve success at producing more year-round food.

Abundant. Nutritious. Locally sourced. Year-Round. Our island community is in need of a sustainable, reliable locally grown food supply and our island farmers can deliver it with your gift. You have already helped us achieve so much towards this goal!

Together, in 2021-2022, we hope to:

• Increase agricultural acreage which will help to secure our food sources, made available to all island residents and visitors
• Procure and manage year-round greenhouses as well as cold storage and refrigeration capacity to expand the growing season and improve food security
• Create a compost program to better utilize island waste and to further amend our soil
• Extend the Farm to School curriculum to include an agriculture vocational program at Nantucket High School, as well as integrate gardening throughout each of the Public-School grades
• Collaborate with other island not for profits to create a supply and distribution chain among local farmers and those in need. Food insecurity among families on Nantucket is becoming an acute problem.

Sustainable Nantucket touches so many members of the island community throughout the year, and now we ask for you to pitch in and help sustain and expand our mission. Help us achieve our vision to support and expand all food grown, caught and harvested on Nantucket, and to educate islanders and visitors about the benefits of eating local food—as though our lives depended on it.
