2025 has been a year of connecting dots within our island community. We’ve led two bike tours to a variety of island farms, introducing our guests to places they weren’t aware of as sources of food. We’ve held two successful Community Sponsored Agriculture programs, one each in the summer and fall, where collectively thirty-one purchasers got to enjoy the freshest of produce, herbs and berries from four of our farmers at the Sustainable Nantucket farm for seventeen weeks, and worked with the Preservation Institute of Nantucket to do in depth interviews with some of our island’s iconic legacy farmers in addition to the very productive growers at our own farm. The resulting recordings will be used in a future showcase exhibit. We have worked in concert with eight sister Massachusetts based “Buy Local” not for profits to pass legislature providing resources for farmers across the State, convened with them at Ag Day in the State House and as a result, had the pleasure of hosting Representative Tom Moakley, Senator Julian Cyr and Governor Maura Healy for tours of our farm as we engaged in discussions of how our farms are contributing toward various efforts to stem the island’s growing food insecurity issues.

Our collaborations also included the commencement of a Community Advisory Board on Nantucket to complement our collective efforts with five other South-east Massachusetts Counties (Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Norfolk and Plymouth) as we examine weaknesses in our respective food chains and how we can strengthen the regional food shed using the CARAT (Community Agriculture Resiliency Audit Tool) program. Our weekly seasonal Farmers and Artisans Market continues to expand and gain fans as we support over eighty local farmers and artisans rotating through our market space and have recorded an increase of over 1500 more visitors per week than last year.

Our efforts to educate island children about the joys of growing plants and the benefits of eating healthy food is also on an uptick as activity in our Farm to School Garden continues to increase. From our new reinforced greenhouse to our newly planted Three Sisters Garden, students have embraced the learning activities offered by our three teachers - Ella Potenza, Farm to School Manager, Dianne Coscia, Assistant Manager and Spencer Koenig, our Intern. We also provided financial support for the hydroponic growing table and part time salary for Heather Ring, who taught our Sustainable Agriculture and Horticulture classes at Nantucket High School.

All of our programs depend on support from our generous donors, foundations, family offices and grantors who help us achieve our mission every day, and we are beyond grateful for your appreciation of our work. We hope you will continue to help us provide resources for our community and embrace the bounty of what grows on Nantucket. We couldn’t have come this far without your support!

With deep gratitude for your generosity!!
